$46,514.00 - $52,352.00 per annum plus performance range

Reporting to the Dean of Law, this person manages the Law Careers Office for UVic law students. The Faculty of Law, a national law school that attracts students from across the country, is widely acclaimed for its excellent educational programs. Its diverse student body finds employment in every province and territory, and in a variety of different positions. The Law Careers Officer plans and implements career counselling and recruitment services for part-time, summer, articling, clerking and non-traditional law-related positions throughout Canada. The Officer supervises a full-time assistant and works collaboratively with other Law Faculty personnel. Some travel may be required.

The duties of the Officer include, but are not limited to:
• Organizing and delivering career-related information sessions for students on topics such as resume preparation, job search strategies, interviewing and labour market trends.
• Developing programs and co-ordinating guest speakers for information sessions and workshops on career options.
• Organizing and delivering special events for students and prospective employers, including career fairs and on-campus interviews.
• Providing one-on-one consultations to students regarding job search strategies, career assessment and planning, and job application feedback.
• Identifying and developing relationships with potential employers across the country, and maintaining effective relationships with current and past employers.
• Developing career services for UVic alumni.
• Maintaining current and comprehensive career information, including a career resource centre, website, and database of legal employers.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree, knowledge of the Canadian legal community, and demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills; or have an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. A Bachelor of Laws degree is beneficial, but not mandatory. Experience in career counselling, marketing and recruiting, especially experience with law students or law firms, would be considered an asset.
