The Technology Career Manager (TCM) is accountable for leading employee career coaching, development planning, training and overall engagement in support of a work group or multiple work groups’ business objectives. The TCM is the focal point for the work group management team for planning, execution and ongoing engagement of skills assessments and inventories, individual development plans, grad intake, and employee on-boarding including orientation. The TCM is accountable for ensuring professional skills vitality is achieved through the integration of technical skills knowledge with business experience.

Description:

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

• Accountable for the planning and execution of career development planning and training for a pool of IT professionals (approx 50 FTE) within a work group or across multiple work groups depending on FTE population

• Provides career counseling with the perspective on the longer term through the ability to understand and translate the executive’s strategic direction in a way that contributes to skill and knowledge requirements in the role(s) today and in the future

• Accountable for ensuring the professional skills exist in the work group to meet both future and current business needs by conducting technical skills assessments, creating and analyzing skills inventories and developing and implementing strategies to address gaps

• Responsible for generating skills forecasts and establishing plans to ensure sufficient supplies are in place to meet business requirements

• Serves as the subject matter expert for the technical skills discipline overseen

• Negotiates development opportunities, training and work experiences with managers both within and external to the working group for the purposes of advancing an employee’s learning and development

• Influences and facilitates employee movement between work groups across CTD, T&O and potentially other Banking Groups to explore roles that are aligned with employee career aspirations

• Leads employees in the qualification and/or certification process relative to BMO CTD professional career curriculums/accreditations

• Formulates employee engagement strategies in partnership with senior management to optimize levels of employee effectiveness

• Creates and implements strategies regarding sourcing and recruitment needs to ensure business objectives can be met

• Responsible for facilitating employee career development and establishing relationships to provide results-oriented, ongoing and measurable results

• Responsible for establishing and sustaining ongoing and measurable coaching to a group of individuals within a defined work group or across multiple work groups

• Partners with managers ensuring goal-setting is practical, meaningful and aligned with both employee and team work plans in support of driving higher business performance

• Manages employee expectations around career development planning to ensure attainable objectives are established and set to an action plan with realistic timeframes, consulting with managers on execution of the plan

• Accountable for establishing regular employee meetings to discuss and review career objectives, progress on development plans, provides direction to employees about learning resources and SMEs

• Responsible for ensuring managers are informed on progress against employee training and development plans

• Determines systemic training needs across portfolio and is accountable for planning and conducting training needs analysis and engaging SMEs to ensure training is in place with programs to meet identified needs

• Works with managers to analyze AES results and develop strategies aligned to prioritized action plans to address highlighted gaps in the survey. Will also counsel managers on the need for ongoing monitoring and communication to employees relative to results in addressing the noted areas for action

• Accountable for ensuring employees are oriented to the organization and/or business unit

• Facilitates the planning process for recruitment and selection process for staffing including grad intake programs, creating requisitions, and coordinating interviews

• Prepares and oversees the on-boarding process for new employees, including access to information and that employee is appropriately set-up with equipment and security access

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

• Advanced coaching skills to be able to coach up to the grade 38 level

• Proven knowledge of and experience in IT development processes and business objectives

• Credible working knowledge of the SDLC, associated roles and processes

• Demonstrated advanced relationship management, influencing and negotiation skills

• Exceptional at partnering and collaborating in order to work with cross functional partners (Talent Management, IFL, external vendors)

• Coaching credentials in a professional coaching curriculum (preferred but not essential)

• Exceptional facilitation, presentation, interpersonal, verbal and written communication and listening skills

• Able to translate business needs into skills planning to meet short and long term business objectives

• Must be able to prioritize and work independently, display good judgment

• Nice to have: Possesses a university degree/college diploma in a related field and a minimum 6-10 years experience in an IT business environment including time worked in an IT role

• Nice to have: Credible technical competencies and experience in the roles being coached
