The CPC Mentorship Program

Career Professionals of Canada is proud to offer a formal mentorship program available to all PROFESSIONAL MEMBERS. This program will allow an interested CPC Professional member to interact with a seasoned career practitioner for the purposes of professional development. The mentorship term is six months. Applications are received on an ongoing basis and matches are made throughout the year.

What is the purpose of the CPC Mentorship Program?

Career Professionals of Canada encourages and supports the career and business development goals of our members. In particular, The CPC Mentorship Program is designed to provide PROFESSIONAL MEMBERS, with an avenue for professional development by enhancing their competencies as practitioners.

The Canadian Standards and Guidelines for Career Development identifies the core competencies required by career practitioners. The program seeks to drive the development of these competencies in practitioners by:

  • Enhancing relationships between professional members of CPC.
  • Providing an avenue for professional development for entry- and mid-level practitioners.
  • Capitalizing on the experience and expertise gained through seasoned practitioners.
  • Advancing leadership roles for seasoned practitioners within the CPC membership.
  • Provide further career fulfillment for both mentor and mentee.

Why become a mentor?

  • Personal development and growth through guiding practitioners.
  • Satisfaction for aiding in the development of a colleague.
  • Further understanding “up and coming” trends in your industry sector.
  • Gain recognition as one of the leaders in our career community.
  • Feel renewed and more motivated in your own individual work.

Why become a mentee?

  • Develop your competencies by learning from a seasoned professional.
  • Gain a new point of view from an objective and outside pair of eyes.
  • Master the art of networking and get involved in a new community.
  • Develop your ideas after bouncing them off someone with true experience.
  • Advance your career and business goals and dreams.

How does the program work?

  • Applicants sign up using the Mentorship Program Form on this page agreeing to follow the responsibilities outlined in the program and waiving liability to CPC.
  • The CPC Mentoring Program Administrator matches mentors with mentees on an ongoing basis, with specific attention to creating good matches between participants. Focus is given to pairing those individuals with similar interests and backgrounds.
  • Each program runs for a period of six months. During this time, the mentoring pairs are expected to meet (by phone or in person) a minimum of one hour per month. Meetings will be on a personal level and strictly confidential.
  • In order to ensure the program is a success, both parties will agree in writing to time commitments and learning objectives during their first meeting.
  • If during the six-month period of mentorship, anything arises that may require changing or modifying the mentor/mentee arrangement, this information will be provided in writing to the CPC Mentoring Program Administrator.
  • Once the six-month period is finished, a review of the program will be completed by each member to assess the success of the relationship and report back to the CPC Mentoring Program Leader.
  • Please take a moment to review the following article posted on the Harvard Business Review Blog Network, it explores the balance of the Mentor-Mentee relationship.
