Volunteer Opportunities:
A volunteer position with CPC is an excellent opportunity to help build
your credibility as a Career Professional and a leader in your
field. Your commitment as a volunteer with the organization is
non-invasive and will only require a little of your time each month –
the total amount of time is flexible and entirely dependent upon your
availability.

“When most people talk about volunteering, they look at it from the
perspective of 'giving back' to a community, but in my case it's what I
continue to get from the experience. As one of the 12 founding members
of CPC, I was eager to take on a volunteer role and see the
organization succeed. I soon realized that it did not have to be a big
role, and did not require a lot of my time. In doing so, I did not know
that my small efforts would have given me and my business such
visibility resulting in numerous interview opportunities by Toronto's
major newspapers (Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, and Toronto Sun),
several business connections, and more importantly, being nominated by
my peers and twice awarded CPC's Outstanding Canadian Career Leader.
Being a member of CPC is a step in the right direction, but
volunteering in some capacity will give you and your business a higher
level of visibility and credibility.” Daisy Wright, The Wright Career Solution |

We are currently seeking volunteers in the following areas. If you
would like to volunteer or if you would like further details, please
click on the job the title and send us a short message:
Certification Assessors
Have you achieved your certification in any of our “Strategist” programs?
If you have achieved your CRS, CCS, or CIS designation, and have received a mark of 80% or above on both parts of the testing process, you may be eligible to participate as a volunteer Strategist Certification Assessor. You will receive sample documents and/or case studies a few times a month. You will be asked to review, assess, and mark the work of your colleague applying for certification.
Career Club Forum Moderators
The Career Club Forum is one of our member favourites in this
organization and we are dedicated to making sure that the content of
this forum is of an appropriate and relevant nature to this industry.
Your time commitment in this volunteer role will require your visit to
the forum to review new posts to certify that they meet our standards
Tele-networking Leaders
On the first Wednesday of every month, we host member tele-networking
seminars. These seminars are 60 minutes in length and offer the
opportunity to connect to other members and share your expertise in
your given field. If you have a flair for education combined with
an interesting topic or presentation – we would like to hear from you.
Career Connections Newsletter Writers
We are continually seeking new articles for our monthly newsletter, which is distributed to more than 2400 subscribers. Articles of interest to career practitioners are always welcome. Have you recently reviewed a new assessment system? Perhaps you (or your organization) have implemented a training program that you feel could benefit your colleagues. Or, you might want to share an innovation in resume writing, interview coaching, or career counselling. Share your tips and advice on what practices and ideas benefit you most in your work.
Career Connections Newsletter Proofreaders/Editors
Do you have a way with words? A strong grasp of proper grammar and punctuation? If so, we would like to offer you the opportunity to get a sneak peek at the Career Connections newsletter before anyone else. Your commitment in this volunteer position will require your discerning eyes to review and edit the latest issue of Career Connections on a monthly basis.
Web Content Validators
The CPC website is the core of our virtual services and we are
dedicated to making sure that the content is appropriate, spelling and
grammar are correct, and that the structure is user friendly. Your time
commitment in this volunteer role will require your regular visits to
the site to review pages and suggest changes to content to ensure that
they meet our standards.
Member Development Representatives
CPC is built on the strength of our membership and the strong personal relationships that we have developed. As we continue to grow, it is important to maintain our welcoming and supportive organizational culture. If you enjoy connecting with colleagues, then you will want to take on this role and make a few calls per month to connect with current and potential members; learning about their needs, telling them about our services, and helping build our membership.

“I have been involved in Career Development Practitioner work for
the past 2.6 years. Coming into a non-profit agency, I knew that
the sum total of education, life and work experience had prepared me
well. I was able to start being productive from day
one. I also engaged in the variety of “Career Management”
activities that we all do. I joined associations, online groups,
attended conferences, seminars and workshops to improve/hone my
skills. Being recognized as a Certified Resume Strategist by CPC was
acknowledgement of my skill set, and I will be going for Master in the
coming year. However, the CPC site is actually used by Career
Development Practitioners, unlike many of the sites and memberships
already going dusty on my shelf.
Having my interest in professionalism and ethics not only acknowledged,
but encouraged by Sharon and her team gave me an opportunity to
participate in this field outside my office. In addition,
although the role is small, I began to take “ownership” of “my”
site. I became more interested in the site activity and was
willing to put my two bits in on subjects of interest to me and other
professionals. In short, I became a professional through my
volunteer activities on this site, which has led to me taking a more
active role in my own office. I have become more recognized as a
go-to person, largely because I have taken on roles outside the office
and am more confident in my own worth. I have also taken more
“risks” than I would have otherwise, such as contributing articles to
other sites, starting discussions IRL and online around best practices
and developing my own tools to bring to the team.
This would not have happened if Sharon and her team had not taken a
chance on me and gave me the opportunity to stretch in a direction I
didn’t even know I needed to.
Thank you Sharon, Melanie, Daisy and all the rest for not only welcoming me, but
for finding room for me to participate.
YOUR number one fan.” Michael S. Thompson,

“My volunteer activity with CPC has done more to benefit me than the organization
itself.
By making presentations for relevant association
groups and professional conferences I learn about developments in a
range of industries while networking and getting my name out there. Appearing
at Trade Fairs has been another way to meet
other CPC members and seeing where the opportunities are for potential
clients. As a member on
the Certified Resume Strategist team, I enjoyed an incredible learning
and collaborating experience. By assessing the content of resumes submitted for
certification I see others’
approaches to resume writing and content selection. For me, responding to business questions in the Career Club
Forum this is a great way to share knowledge and to read about
different strategies and cutting-edge ideas. As an editor of Career Connections, I love having an early
preview of the newsletter – an activity that also ensures I stay on top
of what’s happening. If you are debating whether to get more involved, remember that you can
feature your volunteer activities in your business signature, and in
online and other marketing material – something that augments your
credibility.” Lynda Margaret, Added Value Resumes |

“Currently I serve as an editor of our Career Connections
newsletter. This position follows some four years of volunteering as an
assessor of submissions for Career Professionals of Canada’s certified
resume, interview, and career strategist programs. Volunteer
opportunities match diverse interests and time constraints. Why do it?
It simply feels good to contribute to, and serve a growing community of
Canadian career practitioners!” Stephanie Clark, New Leaf Resumes |
