As a small business owner, you wear a lot of hats. You may be a sole proprietor or a partnership, but it all needs to get done and the buck stops with you. Clients, suppliers, contractors, all rely on you to balance the scales. This month, we focus on how to do it all. What’s your best kept secret when it comes to managing your small business?

Consider these questions for the call:

    1. How do you prioritize? (Business development, marketing, sales, client projects, sub-contracting, administration, accounting, reports, project development, partnerships, etc.)
    2. How do you delegate / outsource? (Where do you find the time to do your due diligence in order to delegate and/or outsource?)
    3. Where do you turn for professional development in your profession? (Resume writing, career coaching, etc.) In your business? (Sales, marketing, networking, etc.)
    4. If you could do it all over again, what would you have done differently?
    5. What’s your best-kept business secret? (e.g. virtual assistant, email program, WordPress, referral business, strategic partnership, etc.)

Resumes are ever-changing - just 10 years ago we faxed our resumes or walked them into an employer’s office.

Never has it been more important to have a resume that tells a well-balanced and articulate career story. With online tools like Facebook, LinkedIn and video resumes, how do we ensure we are offering our clients the most innovative resumes in the market?

Consider these questions for the call:

    1. How important are design, format, strategy, grammar & spelling in your resume offering?
    2. Where do you find inspiration and/or innovation in your resume writing practice?
    3. What do you do to ensure your skills are current?
    4. What recommendations might you make to help your colleagues stay current and up-to-date with their skills?
    5. What are some of the best practices in the resume industry?

We have seen many social media tools come, fade, and go. When does it make sense to suggest online tools to our clients? Which tools do we suggest and to what end?

Consider these questions for the call:

    1. Do you promote social media with your clients? Why/Why not?
    2. What are the advantages/disadvantages of social media in job search?
    3. Are there some clients to whom you would recommend social media and others you would not?
    4. What social media tools do you recommend and why?/why not?

Our clients often come to us in need. Unfortunately, we can’t be all things to all clients. How do you manage when client behaviour/expectation goes outside of our expertise?

Consider the following client behaviours/relationship scenarios for the call:

    • Abusive
    • Needy/co-dependent
    • Changing expectations
    • Free-loaders
    • Toxic workplace/harassment
